Open RAR Files

When people first come across a .rar file the first question they ask is: “How do I open this ‘RAR files’?” and might wonder if it is difficult task, better left for the IT guy.

Maybe you feel intimidated and confused whenever you encounter a new type of file and want to learn more about it.

If that’s the case, you are in the right place! Here you will find simple steps for opening RAR files that even novices will be able to follow.

Step 1: Search for the Software you’ll need.

First of all, you should know that a .rar file is a compressed file. That means that it needs to be run through a decompression software application known as WINRAR before the user can access the files contained within it.

The WINRAR application does not come bundled with Windows like the WinZip application. Just Google WinRAR and you will come across many sites where you can download this software. We recommend that you go to the official site to get your copy.

You will find two versions: a free trial version that will not allow you to create your own RAR files and the complete version that includes many extra features that are not found in the free version. The truth is, however, that many users only use the trial version and seem to have no problems with it.

Step 2: Download WinRAR.

This is the same as downloading any other program off the web. How fast you can do it depends on your connection.

Step 3: Installing WINRAR.

The program comes with an installation package that will guide you through this process. Windows will automatically make this your default application for RAR files as soon as it is installed.

Step 4: Open the Files.

Just double-clicking on a RAR file to open them.. Go to the options menu, Choose “Extract files” and enter the location you would like to use to extract the files.

Once the file is extracted just open it as you would any other type of file on your computer.

See how easy it is to open RAR files? Have fun!
